The Suffolk Foundation announced the recipients of its 2024 Community Impact Grants Program, as well as recipients of grants from the Community Action Coalition of Virginia Fund and the Virginia Whitney Godwin Fund for Animals. The Foundation awarded over $350,000 to 52 nonprofits through these three programs. The grants addressed a variety of community issues, including education, health, arts, environment, animal welfare, and social services.
Lorelei Costa Morrow, Executive Director of the Suffolk Foundation, said the foundation was proud to support the nonprofits working to improve the community. Morrow expressed gratitude for the nonprofits’ dedication and impact in addressing the needs of residents. The Foundation has awarded over $9.5 million in grants and scholarships since 2007.
The Suffolk Foundation significantly increased its grant-making this year due to several new partnerships and funds. However, the Foundation received requests for twice the amount of funding it had available. Morrow asked community members to consider donating to the Suffolk Foundation’s Community Impact Fund to grow the local grant-making endowment.
To inspire donations, the Suffolk Foundation offered a special incentive. Morrow stated that if someone contributed $100 or more to the Community Impact Fund as a Friend of the Foundation, they could nominate their favorite local nonprofit for a grants drawing. Three $1,000 grants will be given away at noon on New Year’s Eve. The names of the grantees will be drawn at random from the names submitted by Friends of the Foundation.
