Columbia nonprofits provide meals, hygiene products to those in need

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – Nonprofit organizations in Columbia are ensuring nobody goes hungry on Christmas Day.

Several organizations offered hot meals and personal hygiene items for those in need. This is after MUSC Health staff members partnered with Concessions of Hope and the Won’t Quit Foundation.

Concessions of Hope in Columbia said they fed around 200 people this year for the holidays, exceeding their usual goal of feeding 150 people.

“Tremendous! Sometimes we run out of toiletries. Things that we don’t have, they have them,” said Louis Rivers a volunteer for Concessions of Hope.

Santino Jones, creator of the Won’t Quit Foundation, and a staff member of MUSC Health, expanded on the resources available this year, offering personal hygiene bags, lightly used clothes and shoes for the less fortunate.

“When I was down on my last. I remember where I was and what I needed. And I needed people to help me get through those unexpected seasons of uncertainty. And I want to be that guy to help them make it through the day with help of other people that are helping me as well,” Jones said.

The partnership provided 300 items for those in need along with a full-course meal from Concessions of Hope.

Jones said good health is just as important as any gift during the holidays.

“It’s very important to keep yourself clean, no matter where you’re at. When I was down on my last. I remember where I was and what I needed. And I needed people to help me get through those unexpected seasons of uncertainty,” he said.

Each person was also offered blankets and gloves to help keep warm while in the elements.
