Wichita non-profits team up to hand out $11K worth of gifts at McAdams Park
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Several local non-profits got together to hand out gifts to children from all over Wichita on Saturday, just in time for the holidays.
Us Doing Us was joined by Dorthy’s Lane for their annual Children’s Holiday Celebration at the Barry Sanders football field in McAdams Park. The organizations handed out hundreds of toys throughout the afternoon. Kids also got to see Santa, the Grinch, and even Ebenezer Scrooge, played by state representative Ford Carr.
“When I see the face of a young child, it doesn’t matter what the toy is, it doesn’t even matter if they get one,” said Carr. “Just that, they get elated when they’re out here, they go crazy for Santa, as well as the Grinch, and it’s just seeing the joy on those young kids’ faces. That does it for me.”
The event has continued to grow over the past nine years. Organizers said that this year, thanks to support from Toys for Tots, they bought over $11,000 in gifts. Last year, around 8,000 children attended, they hope to double that number this year.
