Ottawa County Community Foundation holds ‘Bubble Up’ drive
Community donates shampoos, conditioners, soap and more
PORT CLINTON – The Ottawa County Community Foundation provided bubbles and smiles in November with its successful “Bubble Up” personal care product drive.
During its community project, OCCF collected more than 2,500 donations of shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, soap, deodorant, dental products, shaving cream, cleaning supplies, etc. and gave them to 22 countywide nonprofit groups to provide for those in need, OCCF said in a press release.
“We are overwhelmed by the response to our OCCF 25th anniversary community drive,” Trustee and Bubble Up Coordinator Brenda Haas said. “West Harbor Dental, alone, gave us more than 400 donations. The folks at the Humane Society of Ottawa County, the staffs of Miller Boat Line and Morgan Realty Group, WPCR’s Greg Peiffer, and so, so many other unnamed elves dropped off hundreds of personal care products, which will be appreciated by so many.”
Nonprofits benefit by hundreds of ‘bubble up’ donations
OCCF partnered with all public libraries for the collection of the products and, subsequently, delivered the donations to Ottawa County nonprofits, including area food pantries, Light House Sober Living, Ottawa County Transitional Housing, Oak House, Engaging Opportunities Foundation, Family Advocacy Center, Portage Resale Center, Clothing Corral, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Salvation Army, etc., for need-based distribution.
During November office hours, OCCF also provided an open house opportunity for community drive donation drop-offs. Trustees were visited by many generous donors, grant recipients, and old and new OCCF friends.
“Bubble Up showed us, once again, the generosity of our Ottawa County neighbors,” OCCF Executive Director Shea McGrew said. “We can’t thank you enough for supporting the Foundation and helping the people of Ottawa County.”
Established in 1999, the Foundation has distributed more than $8 million in grants and scholarships — $1.2 million of which served nonprofits via OCCF Board-determined community grants. For further details, visit ottawaccf.org.
