HandsOn Texarkana giving food to clients thanks to grant money from CHRISTUS Health
TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) – Officials with HandsOn Texarkana were busy in their emergency pantry Monday (Nov. 25) packing up food for clients. This nonprofit organization provides transportation and food for senior citizens in the Texarkana area.
Director, Amy Lemley, says her organization has received a grant from CHRISTUS Health to continue their mission.
“It is going to allow us to purchase the items we need as our clients need them and be able to reach more people in our community,” Lemley said.
CHRISTUS Health recently awarded nearly $300,000 to five Texarkana area nonprofits, including HandsOn Texarkana.
“It is a huge help with what we do,” Lemley said.
The grants were made possible through the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund. David Karchut is a vice president with CHRISTUS St. Michael in Texarkana. He says the money helps the nonprofits and CHRISTUS accomplish their mission of healing.
“The health of the community is broader than what we can do in the hospital and in our clinics. It extends to the whole of the communities, so we are always seeking partners who will complement what we do so we can make the broadest impact to the health of our community,” Karchut said.
The funds are part of $3.3 million distributed across Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico through the CHRISTUS Community Impact Fund.
“Our goals tend to be about the impact we can make in the communities we call home,” Karchut said.
