$1.28 million raised for area nonprofits during Brazos Valley Gives

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The Community Foundation of the Brazos Valley announced Wednesday at a community celebration that $1,285,814 was raised for area nonprofits through Brazos Valley Gives.

“We want to give our giving here locally because we’re passionate about the quality of life and the people living in our communities, and we want to support each other,” Community Foundation President & CEO Patricia Gerling said.

This year’s Brazos Valley Gives helped raise money for 198 nonprofit organizations in all seven counties within the Brazos Valley.

“I think it’s so special when they’ve worked so hard to lift up this day and try to rally their constituency to give on that day,” Brazos Valley Gives Co-Chair Molly Watson said.

It’s the sixth year that the foundation has championed this day of giving. That spirit of generosity carried through the celebration Wednesday as over $50,000 in prizes and grants were handed out to several nonprofits.

“That is a huge impact to a nonprofit, any nonprofit big or small, and to see their faces and to see the dances they’re doing, we’re doing the happy dance too,” Watson added.

As Brazos Valley Gives has continued to grow, nonprofits have been able to provide for our community.

“When we think about food insecurity, when we think about youth development programs, when we think about the arts and healthcare, etc., many of the resources are the nonprofits in our community,” Gerling said.

Brazos Valley Gives raised $363,000 during its very first year.
