Washington DC,  (November 18 2024)– In response to the reintroduction of H.R. 9495 Folabi Olagbaju Greenpeace USA Democracy Director said:

“This week, Congress could vote on H.R. 9495, a bill that poses a direct threat to the work of nonprofits, including Greenpeace USA. While it claims to ‘terminate the tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations,’ the reality is far more dangerous. The bill would grant the Treasury Secretary unchecked power to revoke tax-exempt status from nonprofits, without due process or transparency. This opens the door for retaliation against organizations advocating for justice, climate action, and human rights, and leaves our work vulnerable to political attack. We cannot allow this to happen. H.R. 9495 threatens the very foundation of civil society.”
