Shore Gives More: $250K in matching funds for local non-profits on Giving Tuesday
SALISBURY, Md. – Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and this year it falls on December 3.
“The idea behind it is you know the weekend after Thanksgiving we have Black Friday, Cyber Monday, which are days for getting deals,” says CFES Director of Community Impact Lauren Ansted. “So the philanthropy community added in Giving Tuesday.”
Locally the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore teams up with non-profits to help them maximize their fundraising abilities. This year they have 145 groups signed up for their Giving Tuesday campaign: Shore Gives More. The online giving event is open to non-profits in Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset Counties. The Community Foundation says by streamlining everything through Shore Gives More, they are able to promote the campaign as a whole and get more exposure for even the smallest of non-profits.
“A lot of non-profits, you know they just don’t have the capacity to do these kinds of large marketing campaigns. Even if they have the people or the money to do it, they often don’t have the time. A lot of times they just don’t have the resources, so we provide all of that. We make it as easy as possible for them,” explains Ansted.
This year marked a double anniversary for CFES: 10 years of Shore Gives More and 40 years for the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. In honor of these milestones, the Richard A. Henson Foundation has given $125,000 for the event, which CFES is matching, meaning non-profits have the ability to earn their part of $250,000 in matching donations.
“For every $2 that an organization raises, we will contribute an additional dollar to their campaign,” explains Ansted. “We’ll match up to their first $50,000, so we can contribute a total of $25,000 to each organization.”
You can check out all the non-profits registered for Giving Tuesday now at the Shore Gives More website.
“Each gift made to a non-profit on Giving Tuesday makes a difference for the area we call home,” says Erica Joseph, CFES President. “With such a diverse range of non-profits participating, everyone is sure to find a cause to support that is important to them.”
Donors can pick one or multiple charities to give to all at once.
“December 3rd is the day, but for flexibility we open the giving platform on November 25th. So you can start scheduling your gifts as early as November 25th,” says Ansted.
