Thanksgiving is approaching and several Houston-area organizations are offering ways to help families keep their celebrations within budget.
As shoppers try to garner items at the grocery store for the big feast, they are reminded of the high prices that await them at the register — according to Finance Buzz, the average turkey in Texas is about $22. To ease the load for those in need, here is a list of places that Houstonians can go to either get a free meal or pick up food items like a turkey for Thanksgiving.
City Wide Club Thanksgiving Day Super Feast
City Wide Club will host its 46th annual Thanksgiving Day Super Feast on Thursday, Nov. 28, at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida De Las Americas. Integrated Missionary Baptist Church Turkey giveaway
The Integrated Missionary Baptist Church, 4902 Martin Luther King Blvd., will be giving away free turkeys on Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
Healthy Fall Festival and 1,000 Turkey Giveaway
Aldine ISD and the Equality Health Foundation will host its 4th Annual Healthy Fall Festival and 1,000 Turkey Giveaway at 9 a.m. Saturday at M.O. Campbell Center, 1865 Aldine Bender Rd. in Houston. A bag filled with fresh fruits, produce and other essentials will be provided alongside the turkey.
