Green Limerick: Grants of €672k up for grabs for non-profit organisations

NON-PROFIT organisations in Limerick are being encouraged to apply for grants of up to €672,000 to enhance their sustainable and environmental development.

Rethink Ireland, in partnership with philanthropic donors, is now accepting applications for its Impact Fund for Munster, which offers €672,000 cash grants for those dedicated to becoming more sustainable.

This one-year scheme will also provide non-financial business support for up to eight non-profit organisations who are looking to advance their  environmental and social practices in Munster.

The Impact Fund for Munster aims to empower organisations to drive innovative solutions for a greener, more inclusive region.

The Fund will support organisations committed to sustainable development in the two key areas of environmental sustainability.

The first key area looks at  projects that address challenges such as climate education, circular economy initiatives, sustainable food and textile systems, and community-driven green innovation.

The second key area which Rethink Ireland is looking out for in applications is social cohesion and inclusion, where initiatives promote cultural diversity, social inclusion, and address the needs of marginalised and vulnerable communities.

This latest version of the Impact Fund for Munster will also include a new element, that is supporting organisations to promote neurodiversity awareness through a series of educational initiatives in  efforts to challenge stigma.

James Blake, CEO of Limerick Learning Hub, said:  “In 2024, we were awardees of the Fund and we used the cash grants and various business supports from this to increase our social impact.

“We now provide low-cost health-focused and music-focused programmes to our local community. The numbers attending the programmes on a weekly basis have increased and we are achieving strong attendance at the six weeks of summer camps, with 40 children per week.

“Backing from Rethink Ireland has been indispensable in our delivery of health and music programmes. The non-financial supports were hugely beneficial in helping us to develop funding strategies for years to come.”

Mr Blake concluded by saying he would encourage organisations with a sustainability and social inclusion agenda  to apply.

This is the fifth Munster-based scheme from Rethink Ireland and is made possible through the collaboration of Rethink Ireland and dedicated philanthropic partners, including the Parkes family in Limerick, Tomar Trust, Ei Electronics, Sunflower Charitable Foundation and a private donor.

Rob Parkes from the Parkes family  said: “My family and I are avid supporters of innovative projects and organisations, that are driving tangible change for those in our community who need it.

“We really believe in the give where you live strategy and are delighted to be part of this Fund. We encourage new donors to become part of this unique philanthropic opportunity.”

Eligible organisations across Munster, including Limerick, are encouraged to apply by visiting www.rethinkireland.ie.

The closing date for applications is Friday, December 13.
