Chapman University GCI Grant Funding Success – Dr. Ari Jong-Levinger – Two of our GCI post docs received grant funding for their research projects! Read below to hear about how one of them is using their funding!
Congratulations to Dr. Ari Jong-Levinger for receiving $150,000 from the USDA Forest Service National Partnership Office (NPO) and U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities (Endowment)! Her research project is titled Exploring the Value of Ignition Reduction on the Impacts of Post-Fire Flooding in Southern California.
In partnership with Chapman University and Louisiana State University, Blue Forest aims to analyze the impacts of forest restoration on runoff, erosion, and management costs borne by the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District near the Cleveland National Forest. This project aims to determine the value of upstream restoration activities to flood control districts by modeling the filing of flood infrastructure with sediment during post-fire storms and estimating the cost savings from reduced infrastructure maintenance.
Congratulations again, Dr. Ari Jong-Levinger! We can’t wait to see what data and results come out of your research!
