Empangeni SPCA faces financial strain
Relying solely on donations and funding from the generous public, Empangeni SPCA is in the midst of a financial crisis, and appeals to individuals and businesses alike to help the entity stay afloat.
Having long stood as a vital pillar in the community, dedicated to preventing cruelty, promoting kindness and alleviating the suffering of animals, the NPO’s current financial situation threatens its ability to continue serving the animals that rely on it for safety, care and protection.
Added to this is the major concern about the continued employment of the NPO’s dedicated staff.

Every month, Empangeni SPCA’s kennels receive between 70 and 100 unwanted animals, and heartbreakingly, staff often return from calls to collect one or two animals, only to come back with 15 or more that have been abandoned or neglected.
“It is heart-breaking to witness the number of unwanted animals in our care.
The idea that our kennels could be closing and our dedicated staff might lose their jobs due to insufficient funds keeps me up at night,” said Empangeni SPCA chairperson Marina Visser.
“ I appeal to the community, as well as businesses, to come forward and assist us, as they have so generously done in the past.
“Without your help, we cannot continue this important work.”
Advocating for those that cannot speak for themselves, the SPCA is more than just a shelter for unwanted animals; its staff members work tirelessly to prevent cruelty and promote the welfare of all animals.
