Students Volunteer at Spokane Latina Health Symposium | Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine News
As Hispanic Heritage Month nears an end, we want to thank the WSU medical students, led by third-year MD student Lily Mireles, who volunteered at the Spokane Latina Health Symposium on October 4.
The symposium brought together health and community organizations, non-profits, and community members to discuss health-related topics that impact Hispanic/Latina women. Organizers and volunteers helped spread the word about resources available to the local Latina community.
In the afternoon, guests attended a culturally relevant cooking class to learn health recipes designed to prevent diabetes and other metabolic diseases that Latinas are disproportionately affected by.
Hispanic Heritage Month happens annually from September 15 through October 15.
