Birdies for Charity brings value to Quad Cities non-profits
QUAD CITIES, Ill./Iowa (KWQC) – Nearly 500 Quad Cities charities have benefited from Birdies for Charities throughout the years.
The John Deere Classic and Birdies for Charity announced Thursday that the community has raised $15.9 million in 2024.
That amount breaks the record for money raised which before was $14.1 million in 2023. In total, since the tournament began $189 million has been raised.
During the John Deere Classic, guesses are made on how many birdies the pros will score, and donations are made based on the guesses to different local charities of the donators choosing.
“It’s really hard to find someone that’s not touched by it,” said Micaela Booth, Director of Birdies for Charity. “So that’s what I enjoy the most, is being able to help in some small way, make the biggest impact that we can for our community.”
Birdies for Charity then gives that amount of money to the charity designated, plus at least a 5% bonus.
“You’re supporting all kinds of nonprofits, regardless of the size. In fact, I think you’d be surprised to hear that many of the nonprofits are smaller nonprofits that are just doing great work right here in our home community,“ said Mara Downing, VP Global Brand Management and Corporate Communications at John Deere.
Nearly 500 Quad Cities Charities are benefiting from the program.
“This is one of our favorite days of the year, right? It’s the time when you can see the success of the tournament,” said Downing. “What the tournament truly means to our community, into the many nonprofits we support. And so tune in for what we hope to be a new breaking a new record for the 2024.”
